ANFACO-CECOPESCA (AC) is an authorized laboratory for chemical, microbiological and toxicological analysis of seafood by Sanitary Authorities in the Galician Community; specifically, CECOPESCA is recognized as National Technological Centre by the European Accreditation Laboratory (EAL). The centre is a non-profit organization that constitutes a main institution for the whole seafood producing and processing industry. On the other hand, the centre also offers help to producers in production management and HACCP.

AC is a very significant representative body in the fishing industry in Spain. It is a leading and well respected organization operating in food safety and it is an approved national body for algal toxins. AC also has extensive links to the fishing and aquaculture sectors, not only in Spain but within Europe and it has participated as a partner in previous FP and Interreg projects, as well as National funded projects.

In this project AC will undertake the validation of ciguatoxin test and comparison with other ciguatoxin methods as well as the development of molecular biology techniques for phytoplankton identification to assess the toxicity of different strains. It will lead WP5 and particularly the validation work which is vital if the detection kit is to be acceptable to the food safety authorities and to the industry. AC will also take part in WP6 where it will be task leader in task 6.3 (Undertaking specific training of key SMEs and end user personnel in the results arising from the project). ANFACO, in its role as a Nationally accredited laboratory for toxicological analysis in seafood, is in a strong position to assist in the dissemination and accreditation of an effective detection kit for CTX.
